What xTool Users Say

Real feedback from makers and business owners who use xTool laser systems in their daily workflows.

"Purchased the S1 40W in late 2024 for my custom gift business. Within the first two weeks I cut over 200 acrylic keychains and 80 wooden ornaments without a single failed job. The enclosed design keeps my home workshop clean, and xTool Creative Space had every material preset I needed built in."

"We run two F1 portable units for on-site jewelry marking at craft fairs and trade shows. Battery-powered fiber marking on sterling silver rings is sharp down to 0.5mm text, which is the threshold our customers expect. Total setup time including laptop is about 8 minutes per venue. Reliability across 40+ events in 2025 has been flawless."

"We teach product design in a high school makerspace with three xTool D1 Pro units. Students go from Illustrator file to finished laser-cut prototype within a single 90-minute class period. The camera alignment feature reduced our material waste by roughly 30 percent compared to the manual calibration on our old machine."

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about xTool laser systems, materials, software, and support.

xTool currently offers three laser types across its product range. Diode lasers (used in the D1 Pro, S1, and P2 series) operate at 450nm wavelength and are effective for engraving and cutting wood, acrylic, leather, and fabric. Typical cutting depth on 3mm basswood is around 1 pass at 40W. Fiber lasers (in the F1 series) operate at 1064nm and are designed for permanent marking on bare metals including stainless steel, titanium, brass, and aluminum. They cannot cut or engrave wood or most organics. CO2 lasers (in the P2 series) operate at 10,600nm and handle glass engraving and thicker material cutting better than diode lasers. If you work primarily with organic materials, a diode or CO2 unit is the right choice. If you mark metals, the F1 fiber laser is the appropriate option. The F1 is unique in combining both laser types in a single portable unit.

xTool Creative Space (XCS) is free proprietary software that ships with every xTool machine. It handles design layout, material parameter management, camera positioning, and direct machine control in a single application. XCS includes preset parameters for over 300 material and thickness combinations, which eliminates the trial-and-error process of dialing in power, speed, and pass count for common substrates. You do not need separate design software for basic work, as XCS supports SVG and PNG import, text editing, and basic shape creation. However, many professional users create their designs in Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, or Inkscape and then import the files into XCS for laser processing. XCS runs on Windows 10+ and macOS 10.15+.

xTool diode and CO2 systems handle a broad range of organic and synthetic materials: hardwoods, softwoods, bamboo, MDF, plywood, acrylic (cast and extruded), leather (genuine and faux), cotton fabric, felt, cork, rubber, cardboard, and paper. Fiber laser systems mark bare stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, brass, copper, and certain engineering plastics like Delrin and nylon. Materials you must avoid include PVC and any vinyl-based material, which releases toxic chlorine gas when laser-processed. Polycarbonate also produces harmful fumes and discolors rather than cuts cleanly. ABS can be laser-cut but produces visible yellowing and strong odor, so adequate ventilation is essential. Highly reflective bare copper should only be processed on fiber systems with appropriate settings, as it can reflect diode laser beams back into the optical path.

Yes. All laser processing generates smoke, particulates, and volatile organic compounds that must be extracted from the work area. Enclosed models like the S1 and P2 have built-in exhaust ports that connect to either an external vent or a standalone air purifier unit. xTool sells a compatible smoke purifier with HEPA and activated carbon filtration for indoor use where direct outside venting is not practical. Open-frame models like the D1 Pro require either a separately purchased enclosure with exhaust or operation in a well-ventilated area with a dedicated fume extraction system. Operating without proper ventilation will degrade engraving quality over time due to lens contamination, and more importantly, poses health risks from repeated particulate inhalation.

xTool machines carry a standard 2-year manufacturer warranty covering mechanical and electronic components. The laser source module has a separate warranty period that varies by model (typically 12 to 24 months depending on the laser type). Support is available through email, live chat, and phone during business hours across North American, European, and Asia-Pacific time zones. Average first-response time for technical inquiries is under 8 hours on business days. xTool maintains 12 service centers globally and a network of 60+ authorized distributors that can provide local hands-on support. Replacement parts for common wear items (lenses, belts, nozzles) ship within 2-3 business days from regional warehouses.

Pricing varies by model, laser power, and included accessories. Entry-level diode laser engravers start in the mid-three-figure range for basic configurations. Mid-range enclosed cutters like the S1 and P2 series sit in the four-figure range depending on wattage. The F1 portable fiber and diode combo system is positioned at a premium due to its dual-source capability. The MetalFab laser welder is priced separately as an industrial-grade tool. Configuration choices such as rotary attachments, air assist kits, riser bases, and honeycomb panels add to the total cost. The most efficient way to get accurate pricing for your specific use case is to submit a quote request with your material types, production volume, and work area needs. We respond to quote requests within one business day.

xTool does not currently operate a formal sample testing program where you mail in materials. However, there are practical alternatives. Many authorized distributors maintain demo units and will run test jobs on your materials at no charge if you visit their location or ship samples to them. xTool also publishes detailed material parameter databases within Creative Space software, including recommended power, speed, and pass settings for over 300 substrate and thickness combinations. The xTool community forum and YouTube channel feature thousands of real-world test results from users working with specific materials, which provides a reliable reference before purchase. If you have a specialized material not covered in existing documentation, contact our applications team and we can advise based on the material composition.
